Son of the owners who managed a great eatery downstairs.

No security window screen....did not feel safe with window open as they had no air conditioning. Free wireless needed upgrading as it cut out frequently...frustrating. Cut originally booked 10 days down to 2 days and left for cheaper/safer holiday inn.

The location was fairly close to the city center and allowed the use of bart, as there was a station nearby.

The owners of the hotel are not very welcoming. They provide as little service as possible and with very little grace (only when prompted do they provide clean towels or extra toilet paper. Our room was literally falling apart, as the curtains came down, the toilet seat slid sideways and handles in the bathroom had come undone. No airconditioning and a very busy street made for uneasy sleeping. Bring earplugs!

Situated in a very nice and upcoming area in sf (The Mission) with lots of nice cafes, restaurants and shops. Nicely decorated rooms. The corridor is clean and smells fresh. Ask for a room on the front side, it can be quite noisy at night, but you have a lovely view over Valencia Street.

Do not expect any service nor hospitality from this hotel. It feels more as a room-rental. The hotel is owned by an Indian family. You have to knock at a private apartment when you want to check in. They open the door through a small chink as if you're intruding, this feels very weird. The shower was broken, and they didn't fix it. We stayed there for four nights and the towels only got to change once, they didn't make up to bed nor gave us clean sheets.

    Exceptional

It was in a pretty cool part of town, a part of sf I've never stayed before. Close to great pizza and markets.

Staff was unwilling to store a minor, negligible amount of luggage for a few hours after check out - after this had been agreed on before. At a room rate of over $ 200 per night incl. Taxes, this lack of willingness to accommodate customers is deplorable, even if I expect to pay high prices for an accommodation in San Francisco.

Great spot, very very safe (police building literally across the street).

Room wasn't cleaned the first night we stayed there, and both nights we had to ask for extra sheets and were told "Ready in 5 minutes" when they gave them to us over an hour later.

The hotel is conveniently located 2 blocks from the public transportation in San Francisco (bart) and was also in a youthful neighborhood. There were plenty of restaurants and small shops around.

The staff wasn't very nice to us until we checked out. The room was very disappointing. The walls were stained, the chest of drawers was falling apart and there was one communal shower and toilet on our floor.

I have pretty much nothing to positive to say about The Hotel Tropicana. I guess the best I could say was that I did not encounter a rodent infestation.

I was unfairly charge an extra 50 dollars for just one night. The lady who runs the place has little to no grasp of english and is constantly trying to scam guests for money. The place smells terrible and has no amenities. Even upon arrival we had to argue to her even for her to honor our reservation, claiming she thought it was cancelled. This was probably the worst hotel stay I have ever had in my life.

There was a bed and a roof and that is about it

Horrible room that was cramped and smelt.I Dont even know where to start wifi that didnt work, light switches that wernt complete, no phone, had a microwave and fridge but couldnt have them both plugged in at the same time and the plug that did work was unsecure, the plug that didnt work had metal prongs snapped into it. I have stayed in hostels for 5 dollars a night that wasnt this poor, this place has no value for money, they should have been paying me to stay there. The Club next door played loud music all night. Unsavory persons lottering around the front of the building This list could go forever. As a member of the navy I have travelled all around the world and stayed at literally dozens of hotels the world over, and this would have to be hands down the worst I have ever seen, would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy!

The bedding and towels were clean, but the room needed vacumed.

No customer service. No phone in the room, so we couldn't call customer service. Knocking on the manager's door produced no answer. Our room was in the front of the building, so we had alot of traffic and street noise. The hotel was also near a bar, so it was quite noisy at night. The night was warm, it should have at least had a ceiling fan to help cool the room.

Slight hassle checking in....room super small for two....curry odor throughout the building....not impressed with sharing bathroom and shower with strangers.
